If you’ve spent any time in New York City, you’ve likely come across Frank Ape: the shaggy, ever-smiling yeti who has become one of the most recognizable figures in contemporary street art. Artists Rights Society is pleased to announce that we now represent the artist behind Frank, Brandon Sines.

ARS will partner closely with Sines to connect his work with collaborators worldwide through a global network of sister societies. Sines joins over 122,000 artists and estates represented by ARS, including Salvador Dalí, Frida Kahlo, Shantell Martin, Faith Ringgold, Cindy Sherman, and Wayne Thiebaud.

About Frank Ape

Sines created Frank Ape in 2011, and what began as a single wheatpaste has grown into something close to a fixture. Frank is a mythical creature – a yeti living among people, free from human restrictions – but he reads immediately as deeply human. He is a shape-shifter in the best sense, turning up in any role or setting without losing the warmth at the center of the character.

New York City has been his primary canvas. Frank can be found throughout the five boroughs on painted crosswalks, storefront gates, building facades, and large-scale public murals, including a 100-foot mural at 1 World Trade Center. He’s also part of a broader universe of yetis who inhabit the city, gathering in Astor Place, strolling down the Brooklyn Bridge, or catching a “Showtime” performance on the subway.

Part of what sets Frank apart is his outlook. He approaches the world with an openness that feels almost radical in its simplicity. No cynicism, no irony, just an unshakeable belief that things can be good. His messages return to a few essential ideas: know yourself, look out for others, and take care of the world around you.

Frank has already lent his big-hearted energy to collaborations with Gap, the Guggenheim, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and more. Let’s talk about what Frank can do for your brand. Email info@arsny.com to explore art licensing opportunities.
