East Fork, the beloved North Carolina-based Certified B Corporation known for its meticulously crafted pottery and curated homewares, proudly introduces the Matisse Collection, a new permanent addition to the brand’s evergreen line of heirloom pottery. Rooted in the artistic heritage of Founder & CEO Alex Matisse, great-grandson of painter Henri Matisse, the collection, licensed by Artists Rights Society, pays homage to the iconic artist.
Since its inception in 2009 by Founder & CEO Alex Matisse, East Fork has forged its own identity, distinct from the Matisse family name. Now, with the introduction of the Matisse Collection, East Fork has the unique opportunity to pay tribute to Henri Matisse through the eyes of his great-grandson for the first time.

To ensure authentic representation of Henri Matisse’s original concepts, East Fork took inspiration directly from the artist’s own ceramic work to curate a collection that translates his iconic artistry onto a ceramic medium by way of surface decoration techniques. While surface decoration played a leading role in East Fork’s early assortment, with the company’s transition to gas firing, traditional decoration methods became impractical, leading to a reliance on color for artistic expression across its pottery line. Alex Matisse has long sought to reintroduce decoration into the company’s offerings, making the Matisse Collection a pivotal step towards expanding East Fork’s expressive capabilities.
Blending artistry, craftsmanship and heritage, the new collection features an assortment of dinner plates, platters, side plates, cake plates, and mugs, all of which display unique surface decals and aquatint renderings from Matisse’s masterful portfolio including Bédouine au grand voile (1947), Nadia au regard sérieux (1948), Le Platane (1951) and the series of Nu bleu (1952), among others. The new line is complimented by a bold new colorway – La Sirène, balanced by the company’s soft Panna Cotta hue to further exemplify Henri Matisse’s artistic palette.
